Ten sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced allegations of disseminating fabrications regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the first lady's biological sex.
Their legal filing states that Owens disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
