The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
