Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important representative said the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
